ALEKS Chemistry has had a fee increase for a new price or fee of $60.00 for an 18 week subscription. No more bundle pricing with Aleks Math. This is effective May 1st, 2023.
About ALEKS Scores
It is required that all students who want to enroll in General Chemistry, CHEM 1103, first pass the ALEKS Chemistry course with a score of 70% on the knowledge check assessment.  A score of 70% mastery on the initial knowledge check, meets the minimum requirements for preparedness in CHE 1103.  Mastery of material is based on the percent of content mastered based on knowledge check (dark blue color on Class progress performance). NOT progress made in learning module so 60% in dark blue (knowledge checked mastery) plus 10% in green (progress) does not equal 70% mastery; all progress must be knowledge checked to turn dark blue.
What is ALEKS?
Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn’t know in a course. ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics she is most ready to learn. As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained. ALEKS courses are very complete in their topic coverage and ALEKS avoids multiple-choice questions. A student who shows a high level of mastery of an ALEKS course will be successful in the actual course she is taking.
ALEKS also provides the advantages of one-on-one instruction, 24/7, from virtually any Web-based computer for a fraction of the cost of a human tutor.
ACCESS to ALEKS Chemistry
- Sign in using your UTSA abc123 and passphrase while in Chrome or Firefox.
- You will be directed into the ALEKS system and asked to click on the active Summer Preparation for General Chemistry Course. The new fee for ALEKS Chemistry is: $60.00 for a 18 week subscription effective from the time “launch” is clicked in My UTSA.
- There are no refunds after launching the ALEKS so it is advisable your advisor is consulted prior to choosing ALEKS.
What is considered passing the Prep course or readiness for General Chemistry?
Students need to achieve a 70% or higher on the learning modules in order to meet the readiness standards that are required by the UTSA Chemistry department for success in General Chemistry, CHEM 1103. Students who meet one of the following criteria below also meet the established criteria for success in General Chemistry, CHEM 1103:
- A grade of C- or higher in Basic Chemistry, CHEM 1073
- AP Chemistry score of 3 or higher
How long do I have in the ALEKS course?
The ALEKS Chemistry course is open for 11 weeks from the first day of use for learning and achieving their recommended readiness passing score of 70% in the course. Scores will be reported into the student system and your student account will be charged for use of the ALEKS system.
